Celebrating National Bike Month in Columbus, Ohio

May is National Bike Month, a time to celebrate the freedom, connection, and joy that riding a bike brings to our lives and communities. DevahD Cycling marked the occasion in a powerful way, by welcoming a fresh wave of League Cycling Instructors (LCIs) during a transformative 3-day training weekend in Columbus, Ohio.

Hosted in partnership with the League of American Bicyclists, this intensive certification course brought together passionate cyclists, educators, and advocates from across the state, all united by one mission: to make biking safer, smarter, and more accessible for all.

Weekend Highlights

Over the course of three action-packed days, participants engaged in:

• Smart Cycling classroom instruction on traffic laws, bike handling, and safety strategies

• On-bike skill sessions to practice emergency maneuvers, signaling, and riding in traffic

• Peer teaching and coaching practice, preparing instructors to lead community workshops

• Group rides that explored Columbus streets while modeling safe riding habits

The weekend wasn’t just about passing tests ... it was about building confidence, community, and capacity.

The Outcomes

By the end of the training, participants earned their LCI certification and officially joined a national network of certified bicycle educators empowered to:

• Lead bike safety and skills classes in their communities

• Advocate for better bike infrastructure and equity

• Organize rides and programs for youth, adults, and seniors

• Support school-based cycling initiatives and city-wide events

These new LCIs are now certified to bring meaningful change to their neighborhoods—equipped with the tools to create safer streets, more confident riders, and a stronger culture of cycling in Ohio and beyond.

Special Thanks

This powerful weekend of growth, learning, and cycling leadership would not have been possible without the generous support and hospitality of our site facilitator and community partners

Together, they created an environment where new leaders could rise, pedal forward, and imagine a more bike-friendly future for all.

As we continue celebrating National Bike Month, we salute the newest class of LCIs for their dedication, courage, and commitment to creating better streets—one pedal stroke at a time.
