May is National Bike Month!! 🚲 Celebrate on Two Wheels All Month Long

May is National Bike Month—a time to celebrate the power of bicycles and all the ways they benefit our communities, health, and the environment. Whether you're a daily commuter, weekend cruiser, or just getting started, National Bike Month is the perfect opportunity to hop on your bike and rediscover the joy of riding.

Why National Bike Month Matters
Established in 1956 by the League of American Bicyclists, National Bike Month shines a spotlight on the growing movement to make biking safer, more accessible, and more inclusive for everyone. Biking promotes:
🌱 Health & Wellness – Biking is great for your body and mind. It boosts cardiovascular fitness, strengthens muscles, and reduces stress.
🌎 Environmental Impact – Every mile biked instead of driven helps reduce air pollution and your carbon footprint.
🚦 Community Connection – Riding through your neighborhood helps you slow down, say hello, and build stronger community ties.
🚸 Youth Empowerment – Teaching kids to ride builds independence, confidence, and a lifelong love of movement.

Bike Month reminds us that streets are for people and that every ride helps move us toward a more sustainable and livable future.

How to Get Involved
Whether you're a veteran cyclist or brand new to the scene, there are plenty of ways to take part:
  • Join a group ride – Meet fellow riders, explore new neighborhoods, and build community.
  • Bike to work or school – Replace a car trip with a bike ride and feel the difference.
  • Support bike-friendly policies – Advocate for better bike infrastructure in your neighborhood.
  • Celebrate Your Bike Life – Show off your ride, your crew, or your favorite biking spot. Tag @devahdcycling and use hashtags like #NationalBikeMonth, #DevahDCycling, #BikeMonth, and #Bike216 to inspire others to get rolling.

Ride with Slow Roll Cleveland 
Slow Roll is back for 2025! These free, family-friendly group rides through Cleveland neighborhoods are a relaxed-paced, no-drop experience that brings people together across cultures and communities.
**Pro Tip: Bring lights, helmets, and a smile – everyone is welcome. Follow @slowrollcle for weekly locations.

Be Safe, Ride Smart: Tips for Cycling Preparedness
Before you roll out, make sure you and your bike are ready. Here are some simple ways to stay safe and confident on every ride:
✔️ Do a Quick ABC Bike Check
  • A = Air – Check tire pressure and look for any punctures.
  • B = Brakes – Make sure your brakes engage fully and aren’t rubbing.
  • C = Chain – Ensure it’s lubricated and turning smoothly.

🛑 Wear Your Helmet
Always wear a properly fitted helmet. It should sit level on your head and not move side to side. Helmets save lives.

🌟 Be Visible
  • Wear bright or reflective clothing.
  • Equip your bike with front white and rear red lights—especially for evening rides like Slow Roll.

📍 Ride Predictably
  • Use hand signals for turning.
  • Ride in a straight line, not against traffic.
  • Obey traffic signs and signals—bikes follow the same rules as cars.

🎒 Be Prepared
  • Carry a small repair kit with a spare tube, tire levers, and a pump or CO₂ cartridge.
  • Bring water and a snack for longer rides.
  • Have a charged phone and some cash or a card in case of emergencies.
